The King and Queen of Hearts were seated on their throne when
they arrived,
with a great crowd assembled about them-
all sorts of Little birds
and beasts, as well as the whole pack of
cards :
the Knave was standing before them, in chains, with a soldier on
each side to guard him;
and near the King was the White Rabbit, with a trumpet
in one hand, and a scroll of parchment in the other…
The White Rabbit put on his spectacles.
“ Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?”He asked.
Cuando llegaron, el Rey y la Reina de Corazones estaban sentados
en sus tronos, y había una gran multitud congregada a su alrededor: toda clase
de pajarillos y animalitos, así como la baraja de cartas completa.
La Sota estaba
de pie ante ellos, encadenada, con un soldado a cada lado para vigilarlo.
Y
cerca del Rey estaba el Conejo Blanco, con una trompeta en una mano y un rollo
de pergamino en la otra…
